GILLIAN ANSELL

44th International Viola Congress Co-Host

Associate Professor Gillian Ansell is a founding member of the New Zealand String Quartet, which became Ensemble-in-Residence at NZSM in 1991, where Gillian teaches viola and chamber music. The quartet has an international reputation, performing regularly in the US, Canada and the UK as well as in New Zealand. In addition to  her busy quartet, solo and teaching career, she brings to this role experience in organising major music events such as Adam Chamber Music Festival in Nelson, New Zealand, of which she and fellow NZSQ-member, Helene Pohl have been the artistic directors since 2003.

DONALD MAURICE

CONGRESS CO-HOST

44th International Viola Congress Co-Host

Professor Donald Maurice teaches viola and musicology at the New Zealand School of Music, has performed and recorded widely for over four decades, and was co-host of the 29th International Viola Congress in Wellington, the first to be held outside Europe and North America.

ELYSE DALABAKIS

CONGRESS MANAGER

44th International Viola Congress Manager

Currently a PhD student at NZSM, Elyse Dalabakis is an avid violist and performance scholar. As well as an active orchestral, chamber, and solo career here in New Zealand, she has also performed throughout the USA and Europe. As Congress Manager, Elyse offers her expertise in arts administration, music performance, music education, and concert outreach.
